Anaesthetic Emergencies is a 3 day course where 12 anaesthetists (both trainees and specialists) and 4 nurse anaesthetists prepare for serious and urgent conditions that we are expected to be able to manage.
Please see attached flyer for information. The course was held in Stockholm by an international faculty in October 2017 and will hopefully be held in Reykjavik and Helsinki within the next 18 months. It will be held in Stockholm again, and also hopefully Copenhagen.
The course involves:
-reading a course manual (available to anyone for purchase soon)
-taking an electronic pretest
-an introductory morning on simulation, systematic approaches and non-technical skills.
-8 full scale simulations wil thorough debriefing cover both technical and non-technical performance.
-an airway workshop covering cricothyroidotomy and rescue techniques with LMA and fiberoscopy.
The course is supported by the Swedish Society of Junior Anaesthetists, a branch of the Swedish Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care (SFAI).
The course in Swedish is called BASkursen (Brådskande Anestesiologiska Situationer) and has been held 16 times since 2013.
